Sentence 7

Earlier that morning, when I was certain no one was looking, I did something I had done 26 years earlier: I planted a fistful of crumpled money under a mattress.

Later that day, when they thought no one was around, I saw something I'd never seen before: I saw a group of people in the middle of a drug deal.
